new hair cut, not a faux hawk

28 Jul

Last year at the big Dragon Boat race in Long Beach, alot of people got really into it, with war paint, crazy outfits and some crazy hair cuts. What a great excuse to try out a hair cut I’ve always wanted to try!

Fiesta Sunday

23 Jul

We had this freakishly productive Sunday. (Of course it’s taking me 3 days to get around to posting it) We woke up our typical noon-ish to 1pm. I made some breakfast, then we hit the streets with shopping list and a plan. About 5 hours later we were home with our booty and we set to work. Here’s the break down:

Shopping @
Home Depot
CVS
Ralphs

Filter action from the home depot shopping
-Replaced AC filter
-Replaced refrig water filter
-new brita filter (why not since the others were all new)

Chopped celery, peppers and broccoli for snacking
Baked an egg and spinach quiche for daily breakfasts (bake in a 13×9 pan and cut into 8 pieces and refrigerate. Microwave a slice for 1 minute for instant breakfast)
Chopped seranos and jalepenos that went into a Hidden Valley Ranch Fiesta dip

Watched the Formula1 race from Germany via dvr

Completed “medium 3″ of Pixel Junk Monsters w/ perfect (Finally!)

And hung a mirror in the bedroom purchased the day before at Target, but with hardware just purchased at Home Depot.

Dinner was fresh salmon and pepper skewers ready to cook from Ralph’s deli. Salt, peppered, a little olive oil and seared on each side. I enjoyed mine with some wasabi and soy sauce for dipping. Accompanied by individually built salads from the salad bar. I tried a new Wasabi salad dressing thats not that spicy (since even I find a spicy salad weird) and not too soy-ee. MMM

Great day.

Hobbling for Snoopy

16 Jul

V and I have been paddling with the Alpine Dragon Boat team for just over a year now. So we are pleased when the Alpine peeps invite us to their company picnic. This year it included free admission to Knotts, and you know what that means! Yup, Snoopy!

We only did three rides because of the 1.5 hour wait for the water ride. But that was probably the best time, because we got to really socialize and hang out. We also did the Pony Express and Silver Bullet. We called it a day about 6pm. My broken toe is getting better, but with my special hobble, my feet were killing me at that point. I couldn’t even come close to keep up with the group. But I didn’t give up, and everyone pretty much decided the fun was had and it was time to go home anyways.

Our big (Dragon Boat) race is coming the 26th and 27th in Long Beach, but i’m alittle behind in training. With the foot, i couldn’t effectively work on my cardio for a couple weeks. I practiced for the first time in weeks on Saturday and I could really tell that I had been off the boat. It wasn’t bad, but I could tell I had taken a step back in my progress. I had alot of trouble finding a comfortable position that didn’t stress the ouchie part of my toe. Eventually I figured it out, and I could paddle strong. There’s only one more practice before the race, and I feel confident that my foot will be fine. I’m excited because I am a much much better paddler this year than last. Should be a really good time.
